Sun Microsystems has released key Java enterprise
technologies to the open source community.
Code for Java System Application Server Platform Edition 9.0 and
the Java System Enterprise Server Bus (ESB) has been turned over to
open source under the same licensing conditions as its Solaris
operating system.
Based on the latest Java Platform, Java System Application
Server Platform Edition 9.0 is designed to deliver greater ease of
development and greater support for web services and service
oriented architectures (SOAs).
Java ESB increases business agility and reduces the cost of
integration through an open integration framework, enabling users
to more rapidly implement open SOA applications.
Sun will donate 135,000 lines of collaboration and
infrastructure source code from Java System Instant Messaging and
Java Studio Enterprise to the open source community via
NetBeans.org.
* Sun is winding down a strategy to sell its Linux-based Java
Desktop System (JDS), launched three years ago to compete with
Microsoft's Windows products. JDS has won little support on the
desktop and Linux remains more popular for servers.
