Tivoli's server health management and planning toolset will be
extended to the forthcoming Domino 6 server, writes Eric
Doyle.
The move underlines IBM's plans to offer tighter integration of its
software products across the Lotus, Tivoli, Websphere and DB2
database brands. According to Al Zollar, general manager at IBM
Lotus, this will also be extended when elements of Notes are spun
out in Java to offer Web services through the Websphere
server.
Zollar said version six of Lotus and the Domino server will be
released in Q3 this year. The Tivoli systems management software
will take advantage of new statistics and activity measurement
capabilities within Domino 6 to predict sizing requirements and
capacity bottlenecks.
Tivoli Manager for Lotus Domino will not be essential to access the
metrics provided because Domino Administrator will have this
capability, but Tivoli will enable management and predictive
capabilities across several servers.
Zollar also said Java will form the basis of a future release of
Notes which will offer Web services, such as e-mail and Instant
Messaging. Power users will still be able to use the traditional
Notes environment.
