Mobile e-commerce application developers are being rewarded with salaries 20% higher than their counterparts working on traditional e-commerce applications.

Mobile e-commerce developers with over three years’ experience can earn up to £600 per day. The statistics come from recruitment company ReThink Recruitment, which also found that junior mobile e-commerce app designers are paid £350 a day, compared with £280 for traditional e-commerce app developers.

This trend is the result of retailers focusing on selling to customers via mobile devices such as the iPad.

According to ReThink, a rush to enhance mobile retail sites and a limited supply of qualified and experienced contractors is pushing up pay.

“We are seeing a large wave of work as retailers beef up their mobile retail offerings,” said Iain Blair, director at ReThink. “They see m-commerce as an exciting new sales avenue and are more aware than ever of the potential boom in revenue from giving customers a highly customised and slick mobile browsing experience.”

It is not only pay that is increasing. According to contractor website PeoplePerHour.com, demand for e-commerce experts grew 102% this month, as businesses prepare for a rush of Christmas shopping
