Managed comms will blitz in 2008: IDC

Analysts predict that managed converged services will continue to grow in 2008.

The market for managed voice and data services will boom in 2008, with growth expected to hit 26% this year.

That’s according to IDC’s Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) Enterprise ICT Outsourcing and Managed Services Forecast.

Indeed, ICT outsourcing in general will shoot past US$29.5 billion this year according to the report. This is a boost of 11% over last year’s figure.

Adrian Dominic Ho, research manager at IDC, said the firm is “cautiously bullish” that the managed voice and data services market can withstand the expected global economic decline.

According to the firm enterprises will continue to ride the convergence wave, pushing all their communications onto an IP platform.

Ho said what’s innovative about this movement is the introduction of other communications tools, such as videoconferencing and instant messaging.

"Enterprises … are looking for unified communication solutions to be integrated into their desktop and IP-transformation managed services engagements,” Ho said.
