Free calendar-sharing tool ifreebusy.com is closing.
The popular online calendar service ifreebusy.com is closing.
The service publishes a calendar that synchs with Outlook and other calendaring applications, providing users with a dedicated URL that displays when they are free and - as the name denotes - when they are busy. A huge time-saver, the site allows third parties to understand when it is possible to arrange a meeting with an ifreebusy.com member, without the need for either an email server or endless back-and-forth emails or phone calls.
The site's founder, Neil Jensen, blogged today that "After close to four years of running ifreebusy.com, I've decided to close it down, effective October 15th."
"The service began as a way for me to explore the calendar space in search of new business ideas. Unfortunately I became distracted with other business opportunities, and it has never really evolved from its early state."
SearchVoIP ANZ knows of many people in the IT industry - among them analysts and senior IT executives - who will be greatly inconvenienced by the closure.
Jensen suggests users consider either Tungle (still in pre-public beta), Calgoo or iCalx as alternatives.
