Progress Software is acquiring web services management software company Actional to extend its business applications portfolio, including improved service-orientated architecture (SOA) provision.
Progress said it is buying Actional for $32m (£18m) and that Actional will be merged into its Sonic Software operating unit.
Progess said, “Actional Looking Glass provides end-to-end business process visibility across any SOA deployment.”
SOAs allow firms to quickly and flexibly build web-based applications in response to specific needs in the business.
Progress said a wide range of usage and performance metrics can be captured and correlated for governance, troubleshooting, and process optimisation, when using Looking Glass.
Looking Glass automatically detects and monitors business transactions as they flow across a wide variety of application servers, databases and network appliances.
