Sybase has introduced RFID Enterprise to allow companies to integrate data from radio frequency identification devices with enterprise data management applications, such as databases.

The interface for the solution is provided through RFID Edgeware, with Sybase offering management tools to support the integration process.

“RFID Enterprise provides customers with a single framework to simplify the construction of all components in a full-scale RFID system requiring process and data integration, as well as other extended data services,” said David Barrack, Sybase senior director of worldwide solutions.

“RFID Edgeware is a piece of the puzzle that will allow our customers to extend RFID throughout their enterprise, as well as to the trading partners in their supply chain," he added.

Lee Doyle, an analyst at IDC, said, "Sybase is allowing companies to make a single infrastructure investment.

“The market for RFID systems is expected to reach £1.11bn worldwide by 2008, and as more companies consider RFID projects they will be turning to companies that can offer a comprehensive solution capable of integrating with existing enterprise applications and platforms."

IBM recently launched similar RFID business integration tools.
