EDF Energy, one of the UK’s largest energy companies, has appointed its first managing director of IT.
The appointment is an unusual one - the most senior post in the IT department is usually ranked director or below. But Benoit Laclau has become EDF Energy’s IT MD and will be responsible for ensuring the company’s business process improvements programme is effective.
EDF Energy was created from the integration of Seeboard and London Electricity Group in June 2003. It employs 11,300 staff across the UK, has five million residential customers and distributes electricity to 7.8 million homes and businesses.
Laclau said, "This is a real opportunity to make a difference with an organisation that has great ambitions and excellent people. My appointment will enable the provision of an even more cost-effective and strategically consistent IT service to all business units in EDF Energy."
Laclau has joined EDF Energy from Accenture's UK utilities practice. His began his career as an accountant where he became involved with SAP and IT projects, before moving into consulting, where he specialised in business process improvements and large-scale business and IT projects in the utility industries.
