A bug in Microsoft Office 2000 software can lead to some users being prompted repeatedly to register the program.

Microsoft said the glitch may affect all users, but those without administrative rights may receive it again when they relaunch the application because they do not have the ability to click through the dialogue box.

Microsoft said it was "taking the problem very seriously" and expected to fix the problem shortly, a company representative said. The problem was first reported to Microsoft last week.

The bug, while annoying. does not interfere with users' ability to use the application.
