The companies will add enterprise resource planning software and services, as well as data storage services based on Sun's StorEdge storage product, to its joint hosting package in a bid to target medium-sized and large enterprise customers.
The storage offerings will include storage area networks technology, as well as data and storage consolidation for applications throughout the enterprise, Sun and KMPG said.
The companies did not disclose any financial terms of the revised alliance.
Sun and KPMG have been in an alliance to offer hosting services for the past six years, competing against the likes of IBM and Compaq, although the Sun/KMPG alliance focuses on targeting vertical markets such as the manufacturing, financial services and distribution industries markets.
By adding ERP and storage software and services, clients will benefit from shorter implementation schedules, reduced costs and decreased risk of deploying enterprise applications, Sun and KMPG claimed.
