UPDATE: Samsung removes links to business hard drives from its Australian website

Samsung Australia has removed links to information about its hard disks from its home page, but still cannot confirm which disk it officially sells and supports in Australia.

Samsung Australia has removed links to its range of hard disks from its Australian home page, but still cannot confirm which hard disks it officially sells and supports in Australia.

SearchStorage ANZ has been trying to learn which Samsung hard disk products are officially sold in Australia after the company last week said it does not support "gray market" drives imported by resellers, but would not reveal which drives are supported locally. This situation is clearly untenable for disk buyers, who cannot know for certain if the Samsung drives they buy are supported or not!

Samsung has declined to be interviewed by SearchStorage ANZ but the company has since removed references to hard disk products from the "Business" section of its home page. The company still, however, offers two Australian pages referring to ten different hard drive products. One lists ten products, the other lists six. Both pages are in the "business" section of Samsung's Australian site.

Samsung Australia's PR company has told SearchStorage ANZ that the company does not officially sell any of the products listed here, making all Samsung drives gray market. But as some of the products listed on the page are aimed at consumers, we have once again asked for confirmation about which disk drives products are officially sold and supported in Australia.

We're not holding our breath: our first request for the definitive list was placed on June 16th!

UPDATE: 12: 06 PM THURSDAY JULY 2nd

Samsung Australia has since confirmed that the Spinpoint S, M, T, P and N drives are officially sold and supported in Australia.

We are waiting for information on which of its Spinpoint F series have the same status, but have been told that the F DT, F RAID and F CE lines are not sold or supported locally, despite their presence on Samsung's site.

Other F series drives are sold by many Australian online retailers.
