Downturns are difficult times to be meeting strangers or business associates. What do you talk about?  A while back I was speaking at a central europe on a collaboration technology conference. Lunch was passed in silence.

When I commented on this, my host said that was the way there.

Silence means people don’t embarrass themselves by putting their foot in it.

Right now, listening to people’s disaster scenarios is depressing. The future won’t be as we expect so what’s the point of conjecture. Less said the better – it’s the European way.

Nordics are quiet at times. Each coountry has it's own ways, always helps to have a Yank as you call us around. We'll say anything to anyone. Well the others will, I tend to speak to Lotus people.
