Elon Musk set to open source new X algorithm

Twitter reworking billionaire Elon Musk has stated that he will open up a new algorithm related to operations on the social media platform X.

The open sourcing will include all code related to organic (user-generated) as well as advertising post (commercially-driven) recommendations.

Reuters says that the algorithm will be open sourced in seven days from now.

“This will be repeated every 4 weeks, with comprehensive developer notes, to help you understand what changed,” noted Musk, on X.

In the wake of Musk’s AI chatbot service Grok being used for what are reported to be inappropriate images, the European Commission has extended a document retention order on X related to its algorithms and the way in which the organisation might be involved with the dissemination of illegal content.

Algorithmic bias?

Musk has called the investigation into the X platform’s alleged algorithmic bias and fraudulent data extraction activities unfair.

They represent a “politically-motivated criminal investigation” that threatens free speech, he stated.

With so many bona fide users having been stripped of their verified “blue checkmark” now that the privilege has moved to a subscription model, just how far the open model is embraced at any level is an interesting story to follow.
