Novell has hired Thomas Francese as president of its European operations.
Francese, 55, was previously IBM's European vice-president of software. He will report to Ron Hovsepian, Novell president of worldwide field operations, who is reorganising European operations after doing the same in the US.
Francese replaces Richard Seibt, another former European IBM software executive, who resigned in May.
According to regulatory filings, Francese's will receive a salary of £265,000 for the year and a bonus of between £135,000 and £265,000.
He will also pocket a £180,000 signing-on bonus and a £150,000 allowance to pay for housing, car expenses and the maintenance of his main home in Texas.
These extra benefits come on top of substantial stock options in the company.
