Mozilla launches pop-up ad blocker

Antony Savvas

The open source Mozilla Foundation has released a beta pop-up ad blocker for its Firefox browser to deliver improved blocking.

The open source browser already contains a default pop-up blocker, but this can’t handle pop-up ads launched by Flash and Java plug-ins. This has now been fixed in the beta version.

Mozilla says it is responding to the increasing number of advertisers that are using plug-ins to launch pop-up ads.

The beta version allows users to "whitelist" sites where pop-ups should be allowed.
