The Pack of Cards of IT and Business Persuasion - Six
In IT, perception is more important than performance. Assuming that your IT team performs, isn't it annoying that people still have a go at you as a department? That is becuase while what you do is clearly important, what people think you do, is even more so.
So, to help your perception, your business relationships and your career - welcome to the pack of cards of persuasion:
The Six Actions to take to turnaround any project
1. Revisit, reignite and restate what you want to achieve - the result
2. Ensure you know why you are doing the project - three main reasons are financial benefit - income, cost savings or shareholder benefit, increased customers or improved morale
3. Identify the key influencers and power players and make sure you have close relationships with them - the strength of your informal relationships will make all the difference between success or failure
4. Make sure you have the right people, with the right skills and bahaviours, in place
5. Pull together a short-term recovery plan with some very qucik deliverables
6. Do the first action - then ask yourself if it helps you move closer to achieveing your results, if it does do more of the same, if not, do something else
