Respected alien hunter loses his job

A network systems administrator in Arizona has lost his job after downloading alien-hunting software.
Brad Niesluchowski downloaded free University of California software that uses idle computers to search for extra-terrestrial life by examining information collected by radio telescopes.
His employer, Higley Unified School District’s technology department, estimated losses between $1.2m and $1.6m through extra energy use and accelerated depreciation to hardware.
But on the plus side, Niesluchowski reportedly became one of the most admired and respected alien hunters – Downtime hopes he can take solace in that while looking for another job.

This story sounds like he didn't just have it installed on his own workstation, more likely he rolled it out to the entire organisation.

$1.6m though? Sounds a bit far-fetched.
