UK mobile users are among the least confident about
mobile banking and shopping, according to a survey conducted by
Unisys.
Research shows almost three-quarters (71%) of consumers across
14 countries will not consider using a mobile device to bank or
shop online.
The study of 13,300 consumers also showed that 59% of them did
not trust their mobile device to provide secure transactions.
In addition, only 9% currently use mobile devices to conduct
financial transactions like credit card payments, money transfers
and deposits.
Consumers most reluctant to use a mobile device to bank or shop
online include: France (86%), the UK (79%), Australia (78%),
Belgium and Italy (both 77%) and the US (71%).
The survey revealed, however, that 21% of German respondents
already used a mobile phone or other personal device to conduct
financial transactions, representing the highest percentage of any
country or region included in the survey.
UK respondents have the lowest percentage of consumers using
mobile devices to bank or shop - just 1%.
Unisys said telecom providers, online retailers and financial
institutions had to work together to convince consumers about the
safety of mobile banking and shopping.
