North Yorkshire Police is to install a newperformance and information management systemto enable intelligence-led policing and to save money.

The new solution will be designed to improve the quality, timeliness and accuracy of the information stored, and to provide decision makers with fast and secure access to the information they need, when they need it, said the suppliers, Atos Origin and SAS.

Under the contract, Atos Origin will lead the implementation of the new solution with business intelligence software from SAS being used to solve the data integration and data quality issues.

With the solution, North Yorkshire Police expects to increase crime detection and officer efficiency, using improved predictive analysis of crimes and more effective officer deployment.

It also predicts a saving of £9.7m over five years through additional efficiency and productivity gains.

"This is a low risk and seamless solution," said force superintendent Lewis Raw, who is project director for the deployment.

"We were able to re-use routines and mappings that had been developed for South Wales Police, which provided cost and timescale advantages," he said.
