Hewlett-Packard is slashing 3,400 EDS jobs in the UK as part of the 9,300 jobs that will go in Europe following its takeover of the IT services firm.
The EDS UK jobs will be axed over the next two years. In total, HP plans to get rid of 24,600 jobs globally following the EDS acquisition.
HP announced the 9,300 job cuts in Europe last month, but has only just announced the EDS jobs cull.
UK unions representing EDS and HP staff have opposed compulsory jobs cuts at the merged companies, but they had already feared that 3,000 jobs would go.
However, it is not clear at this stage as to which EDS departments and contracts will be affected.
EDS has a number of large UK government contracts, and unions have said service delivery could be affected.
