BT and Siemens are to provide joint end-to-end logistics data management solutions to firms, including radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.

The systems, targeted at the retail, food and beverage, aerospace, and defence sectors, will take advantage of existing auto-ID technologies and other complementary technology, such as RFID and sensor networks, to provide scalable asset management and product tracking capabilities, said the pair.

The agreement will initially focus on the retail and food manufacturing sectors, delivering end-to-end visibility of the supply chain, enabling customers to optimise their distribution channels and deploy faster logistics processes.

In the defence sector, BT and Siemens will help deliver speedy compliance to mandates, such as those now in force from the US Department of Defense, and solutions to improve operational effectiveness.

Customers will be able to choose from off-the-shelf, bespoke or fully managed services.
