Coventry City Council has cut administration time following the deployment of mobile technology in its building control department.
The department ensures that buildings are designed and built in line with health and safety standards, planning regulations and other legal requirements.
The Coventry department has now rolled out Northgate Information Solutions’ mobile Building Control package to five out of seven local offices.
The system is used to record building inspection details and is designed to streamline business processes, reduce bureaucracy and give council staff more time to respond to queries. It is now saving the department more than 15 hours’ administration time a week.
The council intends to extend mobile working across the service and provide end-to-end electronic processing to all building control applications later this year.
The council’s head of building control, Steve Davies, said, "The system already saves our staff hours of administration time, putting us in a better position to present our customers with a faster and more efficient service.”
