Global chemicals company Avecia has signed a fully managed IT services deal with Synstar, which will see a number of key staff transfer over to the outsourcer.

The contract will see all of Avecia’s IT infrastructure and applications support – primarily involving SAP business software – being managed by Synstar.

Around 55 Avecia staff and some full time contractors will be transferred to Synstar as the deal goes live. This will increase the value of Synstar’s business relationship with Avecia to over £19m over the next three years.

The agreement provides for a possible extension of up to further three years after the initial signed three-year contract period.

Synstar has provided maintenance and networking support, disaster recovery services and helpdesk support to Avecia for almost two years and, following a review of the marketplace, Avecia selected Synstar to manage all of its IT services.

Derrick Nicholson, chief financial officer at Avecia, said: “In outsourcing the majority of our IT requirements to Synstar, we are building on an established relationship with a company we see as a trusted supplier in the field of IT management.

“The deal also provides continuity for Avecia with the transferred staff and full time contractors skilled in a broad range of IT services.”
