Mobile phone network One2One will launch a synchronised pre-pay phone and handheld computer at the start of next month.

The Nokia 5146 pre-pay handset will be on sale together with the Handspring Visor Deluxe and integrated mobile browser, mobile e-mail and SMS applications.

The Visor Deluxe, which features personal organiser capabilities including an address book, memo pad and calendar, has 8Mbytes of memory - enough to store 12,000 addresses, 10 years' of appointments, 6,000 "to-do" items, 6,000 memos and 400 e-mail messages. The Handspring is also future-proof as it includes a Springboard expansion slot, to accommodate new developments.

One2One is looking at developments in the handheld field. "We have already begun development with our partners of a Bluetooth Springboard modem as our next release and we are examining inclusion of a GPRS [general packet radio service] modem for high speed mobile data applications," said Richard Shearer, One2One's commercial director.
