Shrewsbury came to a virtual standstill last week after the worst floods for 54 years, but icom-web.com, an Internet service provider based in the area, was able to ride the storm due to a combination of boats and good practice.
The ISP's offices are based in Longdon Coleham, which was under two metres of water at one stage. But this did not deter icom-web staff, who used boats to get to work. "Although the water is up to our first-floor windows, we have back-up systems in place which are not affected by the flood," explained managing director Iain Benady. "Therefore, unlike other businesses in the area, we have been able to continue working," he added.
