Virgin Media has appointed former Verizon Commnications CFO Doreen Toben as a non-executive director. She will join the company's audit committee.
Regularly named one of America's 50 most powerful businesswomen, Toben has 30 years' experience in US telecommunications.
She began at AT&T before joining Bell Atlantic, eventualluy becoming vice-president and then CFO with responsibility for finance and strategic planning, before its merger with GTE to form Verizon in 2000.
Since 2002 she was also a director of Verizon Wireless, the US's largest mobile network operator, which is co-owned by Verizon and Vodafone.
She is on the boards of The New York Times Co, owner of The New York Times, International Herald Tribune and The Boston Globe newspapers, as well as fashion house Liz Claiborne.
