Online education passes 20m milestone

What are the industries of the future?

Education? Security against terror? Healthcare? The environment…? They are all going to develop into huge global industries. The Open University in the UK just announced that they have passed 20m podcast downloads from iTunes. Twenty million – what an audience, and all focused on improving their education using online tools.
I’m often talking to companies that still ask me about finance, retail, or travel and how they might develop and they fail to see that a sector like higher education is being transformed, and transformed using social media tools to reach students far from the red-brick campus.
Perhaps this download milestone might make a lot of firms in the tech sector wake up to the opportunities? The OU has a product, a reputation, and delivers a service internationally. They create more MBAs each year than any other university in the UK, whilst retaining a great reputation for quality.
Is it time to learn from the educators about how to make a business work using multimedia tools?
