Poll to shed Sir Fred of his knighthood rejected

The internet-using public has been putting their time to good use calling for Fred Goodwin’s knighthood to be stripped from him. A petition on the Downing Street website has garnered a modest 2,085 (at time of writing), prompting Gordon Brown to reject the fairly muted public outcry.

Brown’s reaction is understandable. If he were to implement the calls of all internet polls on the website he would have replaced himself as prime minister with Jeremy Clarkson.
Furthermore, if Goodwin were stripped of his knighthood for “services to banking”, it may kill Brown’s chances of one day receiving a knighthood for services to the economy.
