The Metropolitan Police Service has awarded two contracts worth £250m to CSC for hosting and end-user services.
Under a £155m, five-year contract, CSC will provide end-user services such as managed desktops, storage, print and LAN support to the force, according to the contract award notice.

The second contract, for hosting services, is worth nearly £95m over six years, with CSC providing infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS).
The notice added that both contracts will also be made available to the Greater London Authority and its bodies such as Transport for London, the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority and the London Development Agency “should they wish to join the contract at any time during the contract period. It will also be available to other police forces within the United Kingdom.”
The contracts are part of the Met’s Total Technology IT strategy, released in 2014, which aims for more agile, flexible and responsive technologies to support a modern police service.
The Met has chosen a tower-model approach for its IT, which involves breaking down the common software components into building blocks and implementing a service integrator to oversee this layered structure.

In November last year the force outsourced the management of its IT suppliers to Atos through a service integration and management contract.
In 2011, the Met went out to tender to replace its 30-year-old command and control system. However, last year Computer Weekly reported that it had been forced to stick with the system for a further three years after it became clear that work on integration and functionality was taking longer than planned.
