The next version of the Android operating system will have integration with the Samsung Knox platform, it was announced...
Samsung Knox is already available for use on Samsung mobile devices to separate users’ personal and work data and applications. It will now be available on other Android-powered devices.
Injong Rhee, senior vice-president of the Knox Business Group at Samsung Electronics, said the integration of Android and Knox would contribute to making Android a more enterprise-friendly operating system as well as “meeting the rapidly evolving mobile security and privacy needs of Android users”.
The military-grade mobile security platform will allow IT teams to containerise business data on Android products and enable developers to target the wider Android community when designing applications.
More on mobile security
Hiroshi Lockheimer, vice-president of engineering at Android, said: “Jointly, we are bringing enterprise-grade security and management capabilities to all manufacturers participating in the Android ecosystem.”
Google and Samsung signed a global 10-year patent cross-licensing agreement earlier this year, and work closely together because Google’s Android operating system is used on Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones.
