Gold mining company AngloGold Ashanti is consolidating its IT systems, including a move to a single global SAP system.

Years of mergers and acquisitions have left AngloGold Ashanti with fragmented IT systems.

AngloGold Ashanti, which operates in10 countries across four continents, will have the ERP system hosted and managed in the UK by Fujitsu.

The mining company's five-year agreement with Fujitsu will see AngloGold Ashanti standardise business-use rules across IT applications to streamline business processes and cut costs.

Andrew Crocker, CIO at AngloGold Ashanti, said the IT project had strategic importance for the company.

He said availability and security were top priorities when the company looked for an outsourcing service provider.

“It was crucial to find a partner that we could rely onto ensure that the system was always available and highly secure,” said Crocker.

The project is currently in its design phase and deployment is planned for early next year, beginning in  South Africa, where AngloGold Ashanti is headquartered.
