SnowSports Interactive has deployed the first Australian ski resort-wide wireless network at Mt Buller Alpine Ski Resort, an Australian snow destination. The network uses SnowSports' whispar wireless system, which is based entirely on Strix Access/One products at Mt Buller to enhance the ski resort experience by providing multimedia internet access to all visitors and skiers. Resort visitors using PDAs, Wi-Fi enabled phones or laptops can access the whispar wireless mesh network from anywhere in the 650-acre resort.

SnowSports Interactive is an Australian-based company focused on enhancing the experience of skiers and snowboarders throughout the world, through the use of technology. The company combines the latest in positioning, wireless and identification technologies with proprietary hardware and software to deliver interactive gaming, location-based and wireless services to ski resorts and their guests.
Looking to implement a wireless network across Mt Buller, SnowSports determined that Strix's multi-radio, multi-channel, multi-RF solution was the only wireless system that could withstand the harsh alpine environment of the mountain while providing coverage at locations around it with restricted lines of sight. The solution will provide substantial coverage in the Mt Buller Village area and across the skiable terrain.
"SnowSports Interactive was looking for a wireless network that deploys easily and that could simultaneously run a broad range of applications without having any negative impact on existing services," said SnowSports Interactive Managing Director Steve Kenny. "Strix's outdoor wireless system and indoor wireless system solutions were easy to deploy quickly and we can upgrade the system ourselves seamlessly as Strix introduces new products and capabilities. Strix also provides superior throughput over multiple hops, which is essential in a ski resort terrain where wiring nodes for backhaul is nearly impossible."
Strix's modular, multi-radio architecture allows for simple configuration and automatic self-tuning of radios within a node, providing a customisable approach to deploying wireless mesh that ensures the highest performance, even across mountainous terrain, deep basins and large valleys, which are not conducive to deploying a wireless network.
SnowSports Interactive is looking to deploy whispar in resorts worldwide.
