Google enhances enterprise search appliance

Antony Savvas

Google has upgraded its Search Appliance system for large firms with easier connectivity to third-party databases and other features.

The Google Search Appliance makes all of the information that employees need accessible through a single search box. It can index millions of documents, and its security features ensure that users can only access the information that they have permission to view.

Search Appliance 5.0 is designed to secure search across more content sources, with enhanced search quality and new user interface enhancements.

The new Content Connector Framework in version 5.0 makes it easy for partners, developers and customers to write connectors to any content system.

Google has provided pre-built connectors for the Microsoft SharePoint, IBM FileNet, OpenText LiveLink, and EMC Documentum enterprise content management systems.

The new version also comes with enhanced security features, which makes it easier for registered users to search for results through a single sign-on process.

The Google Search Appliance starts at £15,000 to search up to 500,000 documents.
