IT services firm Patni Computer Systems has acquired Taratec Development, a provider of IT services to the life sciences sector for £14.5m.

Patni said the acquisition was in line with its strategy of enhancing its market specific services.

"Taratec brings deep domain expertise in the life sciences industry, excellent understanding of the regulated industry, long-term client relationships with the industry's leading companies, and a fantastic reputation for service delivery," said Sunil Chitale, senior vice president and head of manufacturing practice at Patni.

Mark Kolb, Taratec CEO, said, "The life sciences market is going through a dramatic change. Patni's ability to support a wide variety of engagement models with a broad service portfolio will enable us to meet these needs."
