Surf’s up for new merchandising system at Billabong

Surfwear retailer Billabong is implementing a merchandising system from software supplier VCS Timeless to automate its global business processes.

The clothing retailer needed a system that could accommodate tax and language differences in each of the 100 countries where it has a retail or wholesale presence.

Billabong retail manager Steve Hazell said, “Our existing IT system wasn’t geared towards the international needs of our growing business.

“Given that we operate in several different countries in multiple languages, and some with unique taxation requirements, we needed a proven system that was easy to use, multilingual and fully automated.”

Billabong began the implementation by integrating VCS Timeless’ Colombus head-office system with the retailer’s own financial system, which it runs on an IBM AS400 platform.

The new merchandising system was trialled at a store in Plymouth earlier this month. The company’s European stores will be linked to Colombus throughout November, giving managers instant visibility of stock levels.
