The value of industrial placements for both undergraduates and the organisations that take them on has been highlighted by the winner of a BCS Berkshire Branch prize for the best IT student at Reading University.

Simon Perry spent his industrial placement at consultancy Integrated Product Intelligence, where he worked in research and software development.

He said the experience was rewarding and enjoyable, adding, "I would recommend an industrial placement year to any student, because in today's graduate market experience is invaluable."

Perry said he got great encouragement to try new ideas and to learn from the IPI team's skills and experience.

His supervisor, Brian Weeks, said, "Simon's performance and contribution to the company have been impressive. He has been an excellent team member throughout."
