The company believed the acquisition will position Symantec to provide customers with the most comprehensive messaging security solution in the industry.
Symantec said it will now focus on integrating Brightmail's anti-spam solutions into its gateway offerings, to create a new class of protection.
In addition, the company said it will look to use the huge volume of e-mail traffic passing through the Brightmail filtering process as a new source of early warning of impending threats.
