Safeway’s IT merger on

Daniel Thomas

Safeway’s IT department is ready to merge with Morrisons, whose takeover bid was given the green light by trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt last week.

The IT department has used the time since takeover plans were announced in January to prepare for the merger.

The firm has continued to invest in IT, said Scott Langdocs, vice-president of research for retail at AMR Research. “Safeway has continued to focus on improving the supply chain and rolling out cutting-edge technology,” he said. “It is working towards an environment where integration will be as painless as possible.”
