Sun develops new migration programme

Sun develops new migration programme

Sun Microsystems has announced a series of programmes designed to tempt users and developers away from the Microsoft product suite.

The company has announced a new partner migration programme to enable customers to migrate easily from Windows NT to Sun's operating systems. This will be the first in a series of migration programmes developed, according to the company, in response to customer demand for open systems.

Cyndi Kubich, director of ISV and start-up offerings at Sun said: "Because of this growing demand for from developers, we've responded with the NT to Solaris Migration Programme, delivering the Solaris operating environment promise of keeping the service levels up and service costs down."

Meanwhile, the company has detailed a new pricing model to promote migration from Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS) to its iPlanet Web Server.

The main incentive here is price. Sun is offering a 37% price reduction for those migrating to iPlanet from IIS.
