Ericsson's prototype Comunicator displayed at conference

Future perfect Ericsson demonstrated a prototype Communicator platform at the Mobileexpo conference last week in Birmingham. Designed for integrated communication, the device provides both Wap and HTML-based Web browsing.

It will offer a triple-band mobile phone and support Bluetooth connectivity. There is also a built-in GPS receiver for global positioning applications such as online maps.

The device uses the Symbian Epoc operating system. Built-in application software includes telephony, messaging, Internet and intranet access, an address book and a diary. Ericsson claims that when it finally ships the Communicator will offer handwriting recognition and will support HSCSD and GPRS when these become available.
