Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn said the introduction of Kaspersky Lab broke new ground for the NRL: “To attract such an international group, which employs more than 2,300 highly qualified specialists worldwide in 29 countries with 300 million users, is a massive salute to the game and the iconic Sea Eagles brand.
“It is a partnership that will assist the Kaspersky Lab product get instant recognition in Australia,” Mr. Penn said.
The Sea Eagles have negotiated a partnership with Kaspersky Lab for the remainder of the 2011 season and for season 2012 with an option to continue long term.
In an interview with the Herald Sun in March 2011 the company's managing director of Asia Pacific, Harry Cheung, spoke enthusiastically about the benefits gained from the sponsorship of the Melbourne Demons.
"Before the deal with Melbourne Footy Club, Australian software retailers didn't want to know us," Mr Cheung said, even though Kaspersky anti-virus programs are a top four product globally.
"The Harvey Normans, JB Hi-Fis and Officeworks just wouldn't stock our product . . . they said 'who are you?' But the minute we started sponsoring a local footy club, they took notice of us and we went from being an unknown to the number two anti-virus company here."
Clearly Cheung sees benefits in extending Kaspersky Lab sporting sponsorships to a wider market and may be looking for other sporting sponsorships in the future. Kaspersky Lab is growing in the region, with a number of open positions and a growing customer base.
Kaspersky Lab opened a local Customer Service office mid-June 2011 following through on the promise to offer high levels of support and service to its Australian and New Zealand customers. The local team will address customer service requests during business hours within the Sydney time zone and hand off to the APAC team outside of business hours.
Kaspersky Labs logos and welcome messages were already on the Manly Sea Eagles website this afternoon, and Kaspersky Lab will take its place on the front of the Sea Eagles jersey for the first time in this Sunday’s Brookvale Oval clash with South Sydney.
