Capgemini Consulting wants to recruit 1,000 consultants to support its focus on the digitisation of businesses.

Digital transformation will see businesses become more reliant on IT to speed business up, make it more efficient and make better use of business. The web and social media are examples of digital technologies that can help businesses make better decisions.


The company is likely to recruit more "digital natives" young people who were born during or after the introduction of digital technology. Theses people are au fait with the web and are already users of collaborative and interactive technologies.

The company is also working on a major research project over the next three years with the MIT Center for Digital Business.

The research will be used to help the company understand what organisations are doing with digital technology, the challenges of using it as well as the benefits.

Andy McAfee, principal research scientist at MIT, says digital transformations vary across companies, regions, and even within companies. "By studying companies as they currently work, we plan to gain a perspective on the state of digital transformation, the process of transformation, and how they can position themselves to benefit in the future."

There have been some major corporate mistakes made when using social media for example and a new breed of consultants has emerged to advise them. For example, furniture store Habitat was heavily criticised when it used Twitter to try to generate sales on the back of political unrest in Iran.
