Status Quo dominated the headlines, with OBEs awarded to three-chord strummers Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi, but the New Year Honours List 2010 also featured a handful IT professionals.

Dr Andrew Herbert, managing director of Microsoft Research in Cambridge, received an OBE.

Computer games developers, brothers Paul and Oliver Collyer, founders of Sports Interactive which devised the Championship Manager game, were given MBEs.

Rodney Cousens, CEO of Codemasters, received a CBE for services to the industry, and Paul Jackson, who heads the British Association of Entertainment Software (ELSPA), which represents the games industry, received an OBE.
