Open source business intelligence provider Jaspersoft has released a set of tools for running reports over large database systems.
The so-called big data sources for business intelligence (BI) reporting tool enable users to connect to data sources like Hadoop, NoSQL databases and massively parallel processing (MPP) analytic databases. These big data connectors are part of Jaspersoft's open source "Big Data Reporting" project.

"The continued explosion in data is driving interest in a plethora of new data stores that can handle massive data volumes cost effectively," said Jaspersoft vice-president of product strategy Karl Van den Bergh.
Big data systems are a type of database that provide massive scale out capabilities for large data volumes in the multiple terabyte and petabyte range, and are too expensive and unwieldy to manage with traditional systems.
According to Jaspersoft, most BI tools cannot access these systems directly, so users need to export data into traditional relational databases.
"We are the only BI vendor to provide native support for all three legs of the big data 'stool': Hadoop, NoSQL, and MPP analytic databases. This gives our customers ultimate flexibility in terms of being able to report off of any Big Data system they might choose to use," Van den Bergh said.
