Abstain from the joy of texts, Catholic Church tells youths

Targeting more traditional vices is so last millennium. The Catholic Church is telling its youth to give up their cyber-passions. They should abstain from texting activities and from indulging in social networking sites such as Facebook.

Computer games and using iPhones should also be shunned, at least during Lent, says Benito Cocchi, bishop of Modena. With Italy second only to the UK in Europe’s text rankings – with a monthly average of 50 texts per user – Cocchi aims to curb one of the country’s most popular modern excesses.
