Document merge delays Casa Pia verdict

The publication of the full verdict in a high profile sex-abuse case in Portugal was delayed for several days, not by some legal technicality, but a problems created by merging Microsoft Word files.

The 2,000 page verdict in Casa Pia scandal was written in several MS Word files, but problems arose when the files were merged.

Microsoft specialists had to be called in to help judges sort out the text formatting glitch, according to reports. Defendants and their lawyers were kept waiting several days.
