Navision update adds employee portal

Microsoft Business Solutions is fleshing out its Dynamics initiative by bringing together its range of enterprise resource planning and accounting systems, with an update to Navision that adds an employee portal feature.

Microsoft Business Solutions is fleshing out its Dynamics initiative by bringing together its range of enterprise resource planning and accounting systems, with an update to Navision that adds an employee portal feature.

Navision 4.0 Service Pack 1 has been developed to provide better integration with other Microsoft products, such as Office, SQL Server and Small Business Server.

SP1 has an employee portal - based on Windows Sharepoint Services and Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server - that enables collaboration between employees. 

The announcement follows SAP and Oracle/Siebel separately announcing that they will make their products integrate more closely with Exchange and Office as they look to target small and medium-sized enterprises.

Microsoft said Navision has an installed base of more than 48,000 users.

Mogens Elsberg, general manager for Microsoft Navision, said Navision is suitable for SMEs, as well as divisions of larger enterprises, which can use it in a decentralised environment while remaining connected with their organisation's primary ERP system.

Other improvements in SP1 include inventory costing and resiliency planning. It also has tools to enable partners to fine-tune Navision running on Microsoft SQL Server.
