How do you make your job application stand out from a pile of competitors? One answer is to add a video clip to your online CV.
That way you get to show off your winning personality.
But what should you say and how should you record the clip? Help is on the way from software firm Isero has launched a Web-enabled product called TalkingCV that uses PCs with Web-cameras to record answers to structured interview questions.
The questions are tailored to the requirements of up to 50 specified professions including IT manager and IT professional but the templates can be altered to suit the requirement of individual IT jobs.
TalkingCV was launched as an Internet product last month and is aimed at recruitment agencies and in-house personnel departments. However, the company is looking for partners to launch a service for individuals.
The idea is that you would go to the office of a TalkingCV partner and create an online video clip with answers to structured questions in the same way that you might walk into a cybercafe and chat with friends online.
This should help a potential employer come to a quick decision as to whether you are the kind of person who would fit into their team - almost acting as a first interview and saving time.
TalkingCV was developed by Stewart Keiller, founder of Bath-based recruitment agency Christopher Murray which has used an offline version of the product for a year, in which interview videos are burnt on to a CD.
Candidates placed after using TalkingCV include a Web designer.
