Microsoft taps into sewage gas to power datacentres

Microsoft is not turning up its nose at the malodorous gasses emanating from a wastewater treatment plant at Cheyenne, Wyoming.
English: Wastewater treatment plant in Luotsim...
Instead, the company is conducting tests to run a new datacentre that is powered by the sewage gas, according to US reports
Although it is naturally something most people shun, Microsoft realized the gas is energy going to waste.
If the trial is successful, Microsoft plans to locate smaller data centers at biogas-producing operations, such as wastewater treatment plants, livestock farms, and landfills, around the world.
The development could be as boon to all farmers with gassy herds of cattle as Microsoft could soon be in a position to turn a smelly liability into a profitable asset.
