Capita buys in more SAP resources

IT services firm Capita has acquired Newcastle-based Smiths Consulting to increase its SAP practice.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, gives Capita 52 extra staff and 150 associates with experience in SAP projects in sectors including government, telecommunications and finance.

Gordon Ellen, director of programmes at Capita’s IT services business, said: “The individuals at Smiths Consulting typically have a breadth of experience in the delivery of SAP solutions, so we are confident that they will blend with Capita’s business to help deliver a tried, tested and trusted approach to our customers.”

Capita’s SAP customers include Birmingham City Council. The UK's largest local authority implemented SAP to be the platform for its joint venture with Capita to save £1bn over 10 years through a series of business transformation projects that touch every part of the council’s work. This was the biggest software deal in local government when it was signed in 2006.
